As many of you will be aware, the Orthodox and Western churches celebrate Easter on the same day this year. However you celebrate, do bear in mind that shops and offices are closed for much of the holiday period.
Locally, the Maroni Office will be closed until Tuesday 22nd April. Maria’s discount Supemarket will be closed on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, reopening on Tuesday 22nd April. Banks accross the island will not reopen until Wednesday 23rd.
As part of the traditional celebrations, on Monday 21st the Athletic Union will host an event at Piazza Maroni from 16:00, where we can enjoy traditional dances by the children of our village and the ‘best flaunas’ competition. There will be tombola with prizes to a total amount of €1300. Souvlaki will be available at €7.00.
On Tuesday 22nd there will be football matches – Married V Single & Men V Women. The event will be held at the Community Stadium from 17:00.
