The Cypriot House of Representatives recently agreed to extending the deadline for submission of certain direct tax returns and payment of certain tax liabilities. The deadline for electronic submission of the 2020 Income Tax Return for ‘employees and pensioners’ (i.e. those individuals completing form ‘T.D.1 employees’) has been extended from the end of July 2021 to the end of September 2021.
The Cyprus Tax Department now requires all residents to lodge an annual return for Income Tax, Defence and Gesy. This covers holders of MEU1/MEU3 for EU citizens, or the latest version of those for UK citizens, as well as other non-European residents.
The first step is to register with the Tax Department, at the District Tax Offices, submitting the relevant form along with your registration certificate/residence card.
You will then be given your TIC, Tax Identification Code, with which you can register with the web portal at http://taxisnet.mof.gov.cy.
Completion and submission of the forms is straightforward for many, although we recommend that anyone who has doubts about details (such as double taxation rules) should consult one of the many accountant/auditor/advisors on the island.
