Maroni Art Group Report June 2019

Summer has suddenly arrived here in Maroni after what seemed to be a rather long and wet Winter and Spring – for Cyprus anyway! In the last few months the Art Group have been very busy working on their own paintings and doing exercises in Still Life subjects – all quite difficult but very enjoyable.

At the end of March the Art Group joined a group of artists from the ‘Painting in Cyprus Course, Lefkara’ to participate in a ‘Seascape’ Painting Course at Governor’s Beach. Our group used several different mediums and, in spite of the subject being the same, quite different and lively results were achieved – photographs of which will appear elsewhere in this article. Our thanks are due to Anna Kakoulli our tutor who skillfully guided us through the many obstacles we encountered when attempting to paint an ever-changing sea and sky! We hope to be able to repeat this co-operation – perhaps up in Lefkara – later in the year.

Meanwhile, we are hoping to continue meeting as usual on Tuesday mornings but, as you will have seen in another post, we have now moved down to Andri’s at Koinotiko Parko Zygi for the Summer months.

In July we will be having a Workshop run by Jane Corner, a Fine Artist by profession. Jane will be concentrating on the subject which surrounds the island ….. yes, you guessed ….. painting The Sea! More information will be posted in an article nearer the time.

Meanwhile, enjoy the Summer and do feel free to join us down at Zygi – Tuesday mornings from 09:30 – 12.00.
